Fascia is a tough connective tissue which spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web from head to toe and skin to bone without interruption. Fascia gives us our shape. It is a continuous web throughout our body, surrounding every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel, and organ of our bodies, all the way down to the cellular level. Even our cells have a fascial system!
When our fascial system is injured by trauma, poor posture, inflammatory responses, or surgical procedures it can create a binding down of the fascia resulting in excessive pressure on nerves, muscles, blood vessels, bones, and/or organs. These fascial restrictions do not show up on standard medical tests and are often missed in people suffering from chronic pain conditions. If your doctor has ruled out physical conditions and you’re still left with unexplained pain and reduced movement it may be time to listen to your body and give Myofascial Release a try!
